4/28/2023 0 Comments The earth defenders![]() ![]() Used on Jedda in the episode "Mind Warriors II" with an enemy designed to control her mind.Brainwashed: A frequent plot point used in the series:.Big Bad: Ming, who's behind pretty much every bad thing that happens in the series.Bowdlerise: Instead of punching his ring into people to leave its imprint in their skin, The Phantom instead fires a beam from his ring that leaves a duplicate of the ring's surface on the target.But since the blizzard wasn't really real, it overheats on its own. Mandrake fought a mecha who could adapt to any attack so Mandrake created an illusion of a blizzard to make it heat itself up to adapt.Later, Jedda confronts Kro-Tan next to said friend to provoke him into detonating the bomb but it turned out Jedda had thrown it next to the thrusters that were vital to Kro-Tan's plan, blowing them up. When Kro-Tan planted a mind bomb on a friend of Jedda, Jedda had the other defenders distract Kro-Tan while she searched and took the bomb off.Batman Gambit: As a hero team, the Defenders often prefer to outsmart their opponents so there are quite a number of these.Despite being clearly in orbit and far outside the atmosphere, it still inexplicably behaves like an aircraft. There's an episode where the Defenders' spacecraft gets a wing shot off and instantly loses the ability to fly in space and begins to "fall" in a spin.Traveling from one planet to another in a few minutes? Yes.The romantic one flirts with everything that moves, including Flash himself. Anything That Moves: In "Flash Times Four", Flash is captured and has facets of his personality transplanted into four clones.Affirmative Action Legacy: "The Ghost Walks Again" revolves around Jedda having to take up her father's identity.Mandrake, who was simply a skilled illusionist in the comic strip, can use actual magic here. The Phantom, who is just a Badass Normal in the comic, can gain a temporary burst of Super Strength by invoking his "Ten Tigers" ability. Adaptational Badass: Not that they weren't badass originally, both The Phantom and Mandrake are even more so than they are in the original comics. ![]() BCI released the series on DVD, in two sets, and the first episode was included as a bonus on Flash Gordon: The Complete Series. The series also spawned a four-issue Marvel Comics series and assorted video games. Flash organizes his friends and their children to rescue her, but she dies however, her mind and soul ("essence") are stored in a crystal and restored as the Defenders' computer, Dynak X. He kidnaps Flash's wife (unnamed, but presumably Dale Arden). In the premiere episode, Flash learns that Ming is again planning to take over the Earth. Other villains included many of Ming's henchmen, and the Phantom's evil twin brother, Kurt Walker, newly created for the series. He was alternately aided and hindered by new characters as Princess Castra, Ming's son Prince Krotan and Queen Aura's daughter, Astra. The principal villain, inevitably, was Ming the Merciless, re-designed slightly with green skin. Another King Features hero, Princa Valiant, made a guest appearance in the episode "Terror in Time." Also accompanying the team was Zuffy, a cute alien and the team mascot. and Kshin, an orphaned Asian boy, rescued by Mandrake. New to the series were the youthful offspring or wards of each member: Rick Gordon, Flash's teenage son Jedda Walker, the Phantom's daughter Lothar Junior, known as L.J. Other members included the Phantom and Mandrake the Magician and his sidekick Lothar. Set in the year 2015, Flash Gordon was the leader of the group. Produced by Marvel Productions in association with King Features, the series followed the pattern of the long-running Super Friends animated series, by teaming up an assortment of King Features heroes and villains. Defenders of the Earth is an animated series which ran in syndication in 1986.
